On Thursday, November 21, 2024, Eric Davis was elected as Vice President for Finance by a joint meeting of the Oregon Conference Executive Committee and Nominating Committee. North Pacific Union Conference (NPUC) President John Freedman chaired the process. The committee unanimously voted to extend a call, having worked with Davis in our conference previously. Davis immediately accepted.
Davis returns to the Oregon Conference with a wealth of experience, having served here previously as association treasurer and VP for Finance, as well as spending seven years as associate treasurer in the Washington Conference, overseeing 140 properties, preparing financial statements, and drafting use agreements for local entities among other duties there. Davis has also served as an auditor with the General Conference Auditing Service.
As Vice President for Finance, Davis will remain committed to his values of organizational viability, creative problem solving, and transparency. “I love the Oregon Conference and the people here,” said Davis. “Throughout my career, I’ve tried to follow God’s call wherever He leads. I’m humbled by the invitation of the committee and thankful for the opportunity to serve. I know there’s still a lot of work to do to restore the conference to solid financial footing. I’m looking forward to working with the administrative team to support the mission of God’s work in this territory.”
The election came quickly on the heels of the election of Dr. John McVay to the position of president on November 7. Recognizing the urgent need for long-term financial leadership, McVay quickly leaned into the search process, evaluating potential candidates from around the world. But the search ultimately circled back to Oregon, with the joint committee expressing overwhelming support for Davis.
“It has been a privilege, as part of the search process, to become better acquainted with Eric,” said incoming Oregon Conference President John McVay. “He brings advanced qualifications, many years of experience working for Seventh-day Adventist conferences and organizations, and a solid reputation as a dedicated and winsome colleague. He will serve all of us in the Oregon Conference well at a time when we need attentive financial leadership, clear communication, and a high level of transparency.”
Though the final details are still being settled, Davis will transition into the role of VP for Finance by the beginning of January, 2025.
