Beyene Bedhasso has been a significant figure in both spiritual and community leadership, dedicated to democracy, justice, and the spiritual well-being of his people. His journey began with his baptism and conversion to the Adventist faith in 1952 at Ethiopia Adventist College, a pivotal moment that set the course for his lifelong commitment to his faith and community.
Since that transformative juncture, Beyene has demonstrated persistent loyalty, commitment, and dedication to his faith, becoming a source of inspiration and influencing not only his own life, but also touching the lives of those who have looked up to him. He maintained proactive engagement in community affairs, serving as a board member of the Ethiopia Adventist College (EAC) and the Kuyera Seventh-day Adventist Church. As the sole individual from the local community involved in the college's spiritual leadership, he provided steadfast guidance and support through various political regimes in Ethiopia, highlighting his versatility and commitment to uplifting his people.
Upon moving to the United States in 1993, Beyene continued his active involvement in community and church affairs. As an elder at the Seventh-day Adventist Oromo Church of Portland, he has provided spiritual guidance and counseling, becoming an integral pillar of his religious community. He has been instrumental in securing a permanent place of worship for his congregation, leading the effort to purchase land and build the Oromo Adventist Church of Portland. This initiative demonstrated his unwavering commitment to meeting his congregation's spiritual needs.
Beyene has also worked to foster unity among the diverse immigrant communities in the United States, bridging cultural gaps and promoting understanding. His multifaceted contributions have showcased his deep-rooted commitment to justice, unity, and faith. His legacy as an advocate, motivator, and spiritual leader left an indelible mark on the Oromo diaspora, reminding them of their shared journey and the importance of maintaining their cultural and spiritual heritage. Beyene's positive impact is not just a reflection of his personal achievements but also a testament to the collective strength and perseverance of the Oromo community. His work continues to inspire future generations to carry forward the values of compassion, justice, and faith, ensuring that their cultural and spiritual traditions remain vibrant and relevant in an ever-changing world.
To honor his decades of dedicated service to the Seventh-day Adventist church and his community, the North American Oromo community organized a special recognition program on July 28. During the event, they launched his biography, His Story, Our History: A Journey of Empowerment. This celebration brought together community members, church leaders, and dignitaries to reflect on his life and contributions. The event highlighted his profound impact and enduring influence in areas such as faith, education, and community health. Through his work, he has inspired many and played a pivotal role in advancing the well-being and spiritual growth of the Oromo community and beyond. The biography serves as a testament to his remarkable journey and the transformative influence he has had on countless lives.
